We'll take the win! A month ago, the Vermont Legislature (Senate) introduced legislation for the creation of 'Forensic Facility'. The proposal would have included people convicted of sex crimes. The introduction of the legislation read like a roadmap to Civil Commitment. VT CURE wrote to legislators addressing the problems with such a proposal.

As of today, the language regarding sex offenses, for people who are not SFI, (Seriously Functionally Impaired), those with intellectual difficulties. To be clear, VT CURE opposes forced treatment, and institutionalization for anyone, but we understand the need.

The small wins can add up to big changes, and there is no way to know what impact VT CURE had, but we will take the small win.
